Second Season 2008-09

“Opening Night: Second Season” Saturday, November 1, 2008 ~ 8:00 P.M. Northview High School Theater

The JCSO opens the Second Season with a trio of symphonic favorites; Mozart’s popular and exquisite Symphony No. 40 in G Minor, the harmonically rich Tragic Overture by Brahms and Igor Stravinsky’s 20th Century masterpiece, The Firebird Suite.

3rd Annual “Christmas Gala & Holiday Pops Concert & Reception” Saturday, December 6, 2008 ~ 8:00 P.M. St. Benedict Church

Once again the holidays get a supercharged “jump start” with this Boston Pops-style concert performed by the full orchestra with adult and children’s choirs and special musical guests. The concert features selections from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker and other traditional favorites like White Christmas and Sleigh Ride. A beautiful champagne-dessert reception makes this evening a completely perfect beginning to the holiday season.

“A Mendelssohn Tribute” Saturday, February 7, 2009 ~ 8:00 P.M. Northview High School Theater

The year 2009 marks the bi-centennial of the birth of Felix Mendelssohn. The JCSO celebrates the enormous contributions of this musical genius with a performances of his Symphony No. 4, “the Italian.”

“Springtime Favorites: Light Classics & Pops” Saturday, May 2, 2009 ~ 8:00 P.M. Northview High School Theater

Last year’s Light Classics & Pops concert was an evening of musical delights that produced a standing ovation and sent everyone home humming and smiling. This year’s offering of favorites will likely be greeted by even louder hums and bigger smiles. Capriccio Italien by Tchaikovsky will be the centerpiece of the light classical selections and the pops portion will feature an array of well-known tunes from musical theater, cinema and top-forty.
